Sample cover letter for Internship position at National Park US

POSITION:

Summer Intern

GOT THE JOB? Yes

I was excited to see the Park Ranger position at [Park name] posted on the USA Jobs website. As a frequent visitor to the park and as a student of American history, I appreciate [the park's] value as a significant historical resource. The opportunity to assist in educating the public about the pivotal [event in history] would be a rewarding and enriching experience.

I am currently in the process of completing my Bachelor of Arts degree in History at [college] and I will graduate in May. I am also completing an internship at [park name] for which I am working on researching and assisting in the development of several educational and interpretive projects, including an archaeology program for student groups and a Junior Ranger activity booklet pertaining to [part of the park]. In the past, I have volunteered in the visitor center at [park] where I gained experience welcoming and orienting visitors, collecting park fees, and addressing general questions about the park.

Although I do not have experience or extensive training in presenting interpretive programs to the public, I have completed a course in public speaking and I have also prepared a number of oral presentations for various courses I have taken in college. Additionally, my coursework in the field of history has enabled me to develop excellent research, writing and organizational skills, which would be of great benefit in preparing interpretive programs.

I am enthusiastic about this opportunity to use my knowledge and skills to the benefit of [park name] and I would appreciate meeting in person to further discuss the details of the position.

Thank you for your time and consideration, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
