My name is  and I am an aspiring analyst that graduated from the University of Missouri in December of 2015 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance and Banking. I am writing you to inquire about the Analyst position with the Unitized Valuation and Reporting Services Division, which I became aware of through , an Account Relationship Associate at Northern Trust Corporation.

The University of Missouri has given me the working tools needed to succeed in the Analyst position; I took an Excel accounting class, became knowledgeable in basic principles of GAAP, mutual funds, derivatives, and NAV. I felt that the Excel class wasn’t enough so I enrolled myself in a Wall Street Prep Course that taught me how to use logical, date, concatenation, lookup, mathematical functions as well as pivot tables, VBA, and recording macros.

I can sum up my motivation for waking up every day in one word; markets. I grew up being interested in markets. I traded cards, toys, and anything I could get my hands on. Through the University of Missouri Investment Group I became interested in financial statements and began reading analyst reports. I used that knowledge to craft my own reports at my internship at . I wore many different hats at  because it is such a small firm. However, one of my responsibilities was to research and put together a presentation on the past, present, and future of the energy sector. I used historical data and my analytical skills to value several companies using discounted cash flow, market multiple, and asset-based valuation models. My supervisor was so impressed with my presentation that he used it during his speech at the 2015 IPPFA MidAmerican Pension Conference. I loved being able to help the team at  during my time as an intern.

I believe the banking industry is the right for me because of the challenges it brings, and the opportunity to develop my critical thinking and analysis while making great relationships with colleagues that have a similar mindset. In particular, Northern Trust Corporation impresses me because of its long-standing history, continued expansion into places like India. From my conversations with , I gather that Northern Trust also emphasizes teamwork and maintains a low turnover rate. I would love nothing more than to interview for the Analyst position.
