Sample cover letter for Internship position at Parthenon

POSITION:

Associate

Respected Ma’am/Sir, This is in regard of a possible internship opportunity with SpaceX. I am an eager student, highly motivated in constructing a path for a career in the Aerospace industry and am hopeful to work, during the summer of 2014, with experienced professionals and bright minds at your organization. I am currently studying in my 3rd year, pursuing a 5-Year B-Tech/M-Tech Dual Degree course at the Department of Aerospace Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology,

Kharagpur. My focus area is in the field of Aerospace Structural Analyses, in which, I’ve studied courses on Thin Walled Structures, Structural Instability, Vibration of Structures, and
Stress Analysis of Aircraft Structures. I have a strong pull towards Aeroelasticity, which I will have finished studying by the coming semester. I have also acquired a basic understanding of Finite Element Methods and at present, am part of a project in my department, which requires me to carry out analysis and optimization studies of Aerospace structures, using MSC/NASTRAN and compare them to the theoretical values. I’m studying a course on
Composite Materials, as well. I’m also carrying out a project at the Aerodynamics Lab in my department, which requires me to carry out both, experimental work, as well as the numerical analysis of the
Swirling Flow in a cylinder with horizontal axis, using fluids of different Reynolds Numbers, and at certain discrete angular velocities. I would like to be a part of the team for this internship opportunity at SpaceX and get to learn some new things and go beyond the textbook study in Aerospace. My summer break would span for nearly 3 months, commencing towards the end of April and going on till late July, 2014.
