Sample cover letter for Internship position at Pearsons

POSITION:

Intern

I have just completed my undergraduate Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree at the University of Cape Town. I am currently reading towards an LLM in Intellectual Property Law in which my focus will be on copyrights and publishing. This, coupled with my desire to delve into an alternative career avenue, particularly in education, is the reason I now apply for a position at your company. My interest in education stems primarily from the fact that both of my parents are teachers. Accordingly education has been a vital and pervasive part of my life. I have also had extensive involvement in education in both the capacity of teaching assistant in schools and curriculum developer in a legal education agency. As a teaching assistant, I received training in preparing and conducting lessons. What became clear was the important role that educational materials and access thereto had in determining how quickly the learners grasped the concepts. This realisation inspired me to involve myself in ensuring that the resources that learners are exposed to are understandable and will ameliorate the learning process. Pursuant to this goal, I took up the role of LAWCO Curriculum Development Director. The curriculum encompassed role-play, discussions, use of multimedia and interactive games to teach lessons. The overall lesson plans were a collaborative effort between the day co-ordinators of the 4 schools we visited. My responsibility was to grasp the varying dynamics of each school, and then formulate a curriculum that was suited to all four simultaneously. I thus believe myself to be a creative, goal-oriented team player who has been moulded by my experiences in education. Additionally, I possess strong written skills (through research and report writing) as well as excellent verbal skills, forged through presentations, debates and moot court proceedings. I am also able to bring sound administrative and organisational capabilities, garnered through work as a front desk assistant, to your organisation. Keenly aware that I have much to learn in the realm of publishing, I am excited at the prospect of building relationships with and learning from leaders in this industry. I believe that your organisation provides such a unique opportunity. As such, Pearson is my organisation of choice when I envision how I would like my career to progress. I look forward to your response, and I would be willing to make myself available for an interview at your leisure. Yours faithfully
