Sample cover letter for Internship position at Petrochem

POSITION:

Summer Intern

Dear Miss Hernandez:

I would greatly appreciate your consideration for a summer intern position in your Houston Shell International Exploration and Production Inc. branch. I am currently a senior at Texas Tech University pursuing a Bachelors of Science in Geology with a minor in Geophysics. I plan to further extend and explore what the oil industry has to offer.

Since the summer of 2002, I have held three internships in the industry as both a geology and geophysics intern. I have worked with exploration and production projects in Brazil, Russia and the Gulf of Mexico and have developed basin geological frameworks and interpreted seismic data. All three experiences have exposed me to technological software such as ArcGIS and 123DI Seismic Software as well.

Each summer I was placed with a team of professionals that have been in the business for usually more than 3 years and have valuable advice to give. Each summer, I developed close relationships with mentors and developed professionalism skills and teamwork ethics that are an asset to the team oriented environment at Shell. I am capable of being a team member and stepping up to the challenges of possible leadership positions.

I have maintained a 3.3 GPA and relevant coursework preparing me for an internship includes structural, petrology and geology of hydrocarbons. All these courses develop an understanding of the fundamentals of geology that are required for exploration geologists.

I look forward to the possibility of a fourth year with Shell Oil. Please, feel free to contact me at (832)620-0576 anytime should I meet the qualifications of a returning intern. I look forward to your call. Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Gina Bribiesca
