Sample cover letter for Internship position at RAL Space

POSITION:

Engineering Intern

GOT THE JOB? Yes

November 10, 2013

Dear Recruiter at STFC,

I am very interested in being considered for the position of a Summer Vacation Intern, 2014 in STFC-Rutherford Appleton Laboratory recently advertised on TopCareer.Jobs.

I am currently studying for an M.Eng in Electronics and Communication at the University of Bristol. My course develops an understanding of electronic systems through studying electronics, electrical systems, mathematics and digital systems amongst other modules along with practical work and projects. I have enjoyed learning how these modules inter-connect and contribute together in designing an electronic system. I am currently working on designing and building a Switch-Mode Power Supply, which has furthered my interest in applying for a purely technical internship-role. Furthermore, ‘the informal but professional’ atmosphere offered by this particular campus site makes this particular role more attractive.

I am keen to undertake the placement at RAL as I would like to learn more about STFC Technology

and to enjoy the privilege of working in a world-class research laboratory, alongside graduates and experienced engineers. The opportunity to design complex digital systems using embedded microprocessors and FPGAs is highly attractive. At this stage, I have started to explore about units I want to specialise in my final year. This internship will give me an excellent insight into different career paths within electronics engineering. I have received a first in my degree so far and am hoping to graduate with a first. I have gained experience in using SPICE software and ModelSim as a part of my course. With a promising background and a hard-working nature, I believe I can deliver performance in this technically challenging internship role.

In addition to my studies, I am an elected officer representing International students at the students’ union of my university. Also, I am working as a student ambassador to assist in various university events. These responsibilities have helped me to improve my communication and interpersonal skills.

I have enclosed my CV for your review. Thank you for considering me for Summer Internship positions. Please feel free to contact me at xyz if you have any questions or would like to schedule an interview.

Best Regards,
