Sample cover letter for Internship position at Safran

POSITION:

Engineer

GOT THE JOB? Yes

I am a second-year Aeronautical Engineering student at Imperial College London looking to pursue a career in aerospace, and standing as a candidate for an internship this summer in Safran Group’s Aerospace or Defence division.

Safran Group today is a first-class engineering corporation benefitting from a century of experience from its subsidiaries. I am particularly interested in the company’s research and projects which I find both very appealing and all the more relatable to my current studies in aeronautics. Safran has captured current challenges in modern aeronautics, defence and security; its strong emphasis on R&D making it a reference in these fields. Having recently read about the current trend toward more electric aircraft, I am avidly interested in knowing more about the Group’s approach to replacing hydraulic and pneumatic systems with electric ones. Safran is truly leading innovation, exporting advanced products in all its divisions, like the new electric taxiing system. The multinational is building tomorrow’s airplanes, rockets and defence systems to which I wish to contribute in my future career – hopefully within Safran Group. Lastly, I find that the advanced facilities available at Safran coupled with an enriching working environment drive me to get to know the company better.

I have a genuine interest in aircraft and defence systems. Yet my study of aeronautics at Imperial College only remains theoretical, and I believe does not depict the full picture the field of aeronautics has to show. Therefore, as a complement to my studies in aeronautics, gaining a practical insight on Safran’s current projects, goals, and view of the industry will prove both fruitful and truly enthralling.

I feel that I am ready to join Safran for a first insight given the experiences and skills I already have and those I look to build on. Many times, I have come to lead a team and to set stimulating goals to deliver on time. I first experienced this through my years in the Sea Cadets Corps, which are a military marine scouts organization through which I acquired my team spirit, organization and reliability. I later developed these skills when leading a 7-month research project on sustainable biofuels, where through efficient time-management we became top performers in our year group. It drove me curious to know how to apply new engine and fuel technologies to aeronautics. I am currently working with a team on a small wind-turbine project where we designed, developed and now are building one. I would gladly delve further into this and more experiences in person.

In addition, living between France and England, I believe my multiculturalism and ability to speak almost five languages has made me very open to people and to ideas. In my opinion, this will be helpful as being an engineer means working closely with diverse people. Because I also feel Safran gathers many different profiles, skills, and visions under a single flag, I am all the more eager to take part in its activities and to exchange with its people.

Certain that an internship this summer will help further my knowledge of modern aeronautics, I would like to stand as a perseverant and devoted candidate to work for Safran, to develop my skills, and to serve my work environment the best I can.

Please find attached a copy of my C.V, which I hope will help complete my profile. I do remain at your disposal for any queries or further information.
