Sample cover letter for Internship position at Singapore Exchange

POSITION:

Summer Intern

My name is (   ), a penultimate student at (    ), and I am very excited to apply for the SGX Summer 2015 Internship Programme. Details of my resume and background information have been enclosed below.

Founded in 1999, the Singapore Exchange Limited (SGX) serves an important public function in ensuring the efficiency of operations within the exchanges and clearing houses of Singapore. Across my previous internships focused on research and consulting, I have had the opportunity to meet numerous traders who have shared with me their experiences in the markets. Strongly influenced by them, I am also now intrigued by the financial markets and hope to develop my own trading portfolio of derivatives. Throughout my academic journey, I have always been well acquainted with my finance major modules, achieving stellar results for all of them. Understanding the different derivative contracts within the financial markets has always interested me, and hence, the lack of such a real- time work experience represented a spot of frustration. In this internship, I can expect to learn about the different regulatory matters of the exchanges and gain a firm understanding of client trades and the derivative markets, something that I hope to move into. Furthermore, I am excited by the future career development possibilities with your firm, and hope to learn from the great minds working at your firm.

Job experiences wise, I have previously completed internships at accounting with Deloitte, as well as a research analyst role in a boutique knowledge expert firm, The Straits Network. I have also recently completed a strategy consulting internship with Ernst and Young Advisory. Through these work experiences, I have had numerous opportunities in handling engagements, drafting up research reports, as well as pitching ideas to clients. Although much of these experiences relate more towards the field of research and consulting, I have built up considerable competencies in dealing with tight deadlines, and working effectively with teams. I am also proficient with excel modeling; one skillset which I believe would be extremely important for your firm.

An opportunity to share my credentials and experience with you would be a highly treasured one. I thank you for all your consideration and I look forward to hearing from your office soon.
