I am writing to express my interest in applying for the spring internship that you are offering within your company. I saw the announcement while browsing through your online website and I believe I will be a good candidate for the position. I am a third year engineering student at The University of Texas at Austin pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering. With my engineering coursework and my project experience, I believe I am a strong candidate for this position.

As an undergraduate student, I have balanced my demanding engineering course load with a number of extracurricular projects that have allowed me to develop skills that would be applicable to this position. During my freshman year I joined an organization called (WIALD). While working for WIALD, I was part of a team that drafted a proposal and designed a structure for NASA’s Reduced Gravity Student Flight Opportunities Program, the primary purpose of which was to test the thermal properties of Vectran, a very viable structure material for future manned missions to Mars. This project was in line with SpaceX’s mission and ultimate goal of enabling people to live on other planets. I was also selected as team mentor of the Mothership Structures team for a WIALD drone project aimed at modifying the structure of an aircraft to carry a glider autonomously navigated to pre-destined targets. Through these projects, not only did I develop abilities in 3-D design and modeling, and an understanding of materials, but I also improved my interpersonal and communications skills through working on a team and meeting deadlines. I acquired technical skills that improved my problem solving abilities and I would like the opportunity to apply my knowledge and skills at SpaceX.
