Sample cover letter for Internship position at Takeda Pharmaceuticals

POSITION:

research assistant

Dear Takeda Hiring Professional,

I currently attend the University and I am working towards my bachelor’s degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology. I strongly desire a career in biochemical research and development and I am looking for an internship that relates to this field. I was fascinated by the range of medical ailments that Takeda has found innovative treatments for and the mission of the company to provide solutions for unmet medical needs. This closely matches my values and interests and I hope to gain more experience and insight into the drug discovery and development process through a summer internship at Takeda.

My coursework in biology, chemistry, and engineering has given me a good foundation to do research. For example, in my chemistry lab courses I have learned how to use various spectroscopic methods, read scientific literature, and how to control the interactions between different chemicals and different parts of molecules. In my second semester of chemistry, I completed a five week extensive lab that involved synthesizing an unknown complex coordination compound and performing various tests to determine the structure of that compound. I enjoyed the problem solving nature of this lab and learning about the chemical properties of different functional groups. I have also learned about the many uses of organic compounds in drugs and the mechanism by which they are able to treat various medical problems and affect physiological processes in my organic chemistry and biology classes. I hope I can apply my knowledge to pharmaceutical research through an internship at Takeda and become part of the discovery of the next Bortezomib or Actos.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and the attached resume. I hope you will consider me for an internship position or an interview. I am available to interview at your convenience. If I can provide further information, please contact me. Thank you again for your time.
