Sample cover letter for Full Time position at Turner and Townsend

POSITION:

Graduate project manager

GOT THE JOB? Yes

Dear Sir/Madam,

As a student in the MSc in Programme and Project Management at the University of Warwick, I am applying for your Project Management graduate programme as featured on your careers web page. I have a natural desire to excel and be the best in all that I achieve and would accordingly like to align myself with a company positioned for strong growth: Turner and Townsend is a company that I know will satisfy this need.

One of the key aspects that influenced my decision to apply for this graduate programme is Turner and Townsend’s support for the development and advancement of their employees. I relish the opportunity to work with the team who worked on the award-winning project, The Shard, a dynamic project, which has inspired a line of sky scrappers in the city of London.

I was also impressed by Turner and Townsend global network; upon reading about Turner and Townsend being chosen to assist with the delivery of the most expensive residential construction project in Russia, and also being selected to manage the construction of Lusail city. I would also like to achieve professional status in order to further improve my knowledge and get actively involved with challenging high profile construction projects around the world, and I believe a long-term career with Turner and Townsendwill allow me to achieve this. I believe I can make a positive impact in the area of project management, as I am committed to ensuring that we live in a world where all projects are successful.

Having lead projects such as a HIV/AIDS road show while volunteering in my community and as I am the societies project manager I have had to organise workshops and events for the Warwick Risk Management society which has 125 members, I have been able to demonstrate my ability to successfully lead and manage teams. I have excellent teamwork skills, I enjoy working with other people, learning from others and exchanging knowledge. During my internship as a project manager, I worked on an upcoming hotel, which involved communicating with all stakeholders, updating the project plans as changes were made utilising Microsoft Project, I was able to work according to the tight deadlines, and feedback ideas and point out potential risks to the senior project manager, here I demonstrated my ability to be very analytical in decision making, I was able to apply my technical knowledge, and use initiative in analysing problems from varying perspectives and assessing the pros and cons. This gave me insight into working onsite; I was able to observe how site labour is managed, gaining experience on cost planning, time management, risk analysis and I was able to communicate with all stakeholders effectively. I believe these skills are relevant in order to be a successful project manager at Turner and Townsend. I am confident that I have the skills, experience, and personality necessary to be able to contribute in return. I am currently carrying out my research project on factors causing delay and cost overrun in building construction projects in Nigeria and the UK: the expertise developed through this project will surely make me a valuable asset to your team.

I am positive that I can bring my individual skills to any work, which I may undertake. Thank you very much for considering my application; if you have any questions regarding my application please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours Sincerely,
