Sample cover letter for Full Time position at UNOPS

POSITION:

Project Officer

I am writing to express my interest in the Associate Programme / Communications Officer position based in the Gaziantep office of the UNOPS PSC. I am confident that my education, experience and skills make me a suitable candidate for this position.

I have worked for nine years for Turkey’s Ministry of Development, Foreign Economic Relations directorate. Throughout my career in the Ministry, I organized and attended to countless international meetings in which made speeches and presentations, negotiated with the counterparts, and launched and implemented cooperation programs and activities. I have also deeply engaged in organizing, conducting, and assessing workshops on various development cooperation themes such as trade facilitation, food security, infrastructure development, and development assistance. All these engagements required demanding communication, coordination, and reporting skills, and I fulfilled my responsibilities in a timely and effective manner.

The Directorate I worked for provided grants for multilateral development cooperation projects within the framework of a specific grant program. I assumed several responsibilities and thus gained hands-on experience on all phases of project cycle management. Part of my job was to collect and disseminate written and visual material related to the projects funded by our directorate and publish them in our website in accordance with the visibility guidelines of the program. Thus, while not comprehensive, I have at experience on communicating program achievements through online media to stakeholders.

In terms of my education, in my graduate study, I concentrated in international development, and took a number of courses on theoretical and practical aspects of development. In a course titled economic dimensions of international security, I had a better understanding of economic constraints and opportunities affecting security and had the opportunity to apply specific analysis tools to real world security problems.

In conclusion, I am thrilled to have a chance to contribute to the UNOPS projects related to removal of explosive hazards, which will contribute to protection of civilians and improve access to basic services of Syrian people devastated by the consequences of civil war. This position would also realize my dream of working at the intersection of security and development, something I have a deep intellectual curiosity, yet have not had the opportunity to deal with professionally. Thus, I welcome the possibility of working at the UNOPS Gaziantep Office, and I would be happy to discuss the details of my career and education in an interview.

Thank you very much for your consideration.
