Sample cover letter for Internship position at UNSW

POSITION:

Mentee

Dear Future Mentor,

I am a second year student at the University of Sydney majoring in Applied finance. I’d like to take this opportunity to apply for Lucy mentorship program. As a student I’m extremely interested in joining this program because it would help me gain an in depth exposure and perspective to the finance, accounting and business sectors and a more experienced perspective and insight of a on bankers’ working lives. This is a kind of opportunity that only comes once in a lifetime.

Firstly, I think that this program is beneficial to me as this program inspire, motivate and educate young women about the opportunities available for employment and leadership in the public and private sectors to woman. As the program is specifically designed for female undergraduate, this means that it will be easier to communicate with mentor in the sense that mentor has been through what I had and have not been through yet. I believe that we will have a better understanding between both of us. As a woman, it is very normal that we think we are not capable in doing something as compared to men. I would love to have a mentor who can guide me through my university life and become as successful as my mentor in the near future.

Secondly, I would love to have a mentor whom I can always refer to when I’m struggling with my life being academic struggles, work life balance, stress, or future career confusion. No doubt that this program will help me to gain more insights of my future career path. On top of that, I would have a mentor to look up for advice whenever I am struggling and in a confusion stage. Some invaluable advice from mentor would definitely useful to me.

Thirdly, I love talking to people and listening to their stories. I hope that if I would be able to join and have a mentor, we can always have a chat over life, career or personal development and learn from my mentor’s experience. Experience is invaluable. It will be incredible if I can gain more experience before I graduate and start working.

Lastly, I hope that I will be chosen to join this program as I believe that I will gain a lot out of it and also to contribute to the community of what I have learnt. I would like to work with my mentor closely and learn something that university life couldn’t offer! Having a good role model to learn from is the best thing ever!

Thank you.
