Sample cover letter for Internship position at Volkswagen

POSITION:

Business Planner

Dear Sir or Madam,

Re: Undergraduate Scheme

I am writing to apply for the position of Intern in a Business Planning related role within Volkswagen Group UK. I am a second year student on BSc (Hons) Logistics & Supply Chain Management (NOVUS Scheme) degree, which is a challenging business focused course that covers modules such as Economics, Operations Management, Purchasing and Supply, Planning Techniques, and develops skills through not only lectures and seminars, but also site visits, summer placements, mentorships and field trips. Thus, both theoretical and practical sides of the course equip the individual with skills such as problem solving, team work, critical thinking and data analysis.

I was immediately drawn to the placement opportunity with Volkswagen Group, primarily due to my strong passion for cars. I have always had the passion about the engineering, the design and the art of cars. I also enjoy reading about what the car is capable of doing. Furthermore, as it is one of the largest companies as well as the second largest automotive manufacturer in the world, with such an impressive history dating back to Hitler’s Beetle, I feel that the chance to work for such a successful global business is an opportunity to be seized.

As a candidate I consider myself as being in the possession of the right skills that would make me highly effective in this role. My communication skills have been developed through a variety of customer facing part time jobs, but also through my role as a Course Representative, which requires me to mediate the relationships between fellow students and teaching staff. I have also gained experience in working in challenging manufacturing environment, where I have proved my ability to adapt to new conditions such as time pressure or constant noise. Organisational skills can also be added to my profile due to the large number of events I have thoroughly planned and taken responsibility of, from charity events to press conferences. Finally, I find it noteworthy to mention that I have a continuous improvement mindset and I am always seeking opportunities for both personal and professional development.

A copy of my CV, which further details my skills and experience, is attached and I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,
