Sample cover letter for Full Time position at Web Dogs

POSITION:

Web Developer

Dear Hiring Manager,

I heard about this opportunity exploring web design agencies in San Jose close to where I live. Currently, I am a web developer with 3 years experience developing server, backend, and frontend technology. I also enjoy creating beautiful and proportional designs using graphic design software. Positives about me are my willingness to learn, discipline and consistency.

My experience with content management systems are WordPress, Joomla, Drupal and a custom PHP CMS. Most of my experience is with WordPress using its API to extend plugins, create new views and retrieve information from its database. My main project with Drupal involved a social media fitness website. Here I practiced using its hooks to extend core functionality. Another feature was integration with Facebook. Allowing users to register and login then retrieving public information using their open graph API. A third feature was extending a Drupal form with FFMPEG to perform video encoding and output as an HTML5 video object. With Joomla I performed a short project which exposed me to structuring applications using XML data. Lastly, at Amfasoft I was able to add on to their existing CMS by analyzing existing code and adapting FCK editor to edit content stored in the database, create drafts of pages and save a final copy. My job was to make it easy for future webmasters to easily manipulate the website’s data without touching the database.

So far most of my experience with JavaScript comes from working with the jQuery library. Using this library I have written custom methods to create dynamic content. For example one of my main reasons I use JavaScript is for AJAX coding. Basically, communicating with the server and dynamically processing information to take other actions on the response. Being familiar with OOP, my aim is to explore object oriented programming in JavaScript as I expand my experience with other libraries such as Angular and Ember.

Much of the work I do involves translating PSD files to HTML. CSS and JavaScript. Currently, I perform CSS procedures such as child, index, sibling and general selections. With CSS3 I am fascinated with the possibilities of performing transitions and animations using purely CSS. In regards to efficiency I practice grouping html elements correctly in stylesheets for efficient styling, setting the precedence of styles and properties and using media queries for responsive design. Libraries that have aided me in responsive design are Foundation and Bootstrap. After realizing the importance of readability and organization in coding, I now focus on making sure stylesheets are properly formatted to aid the reader in navigating the sheet easily.

I hope that you find my experience relevant to the position for hire. My contact info is located in my resume and I am currently located in San Jose. I look forward to a possible conversation with you on how to proceed.

Sincerely,

Andrae Browne
