Sample cover letter for Full Time position at World Bank

POSITION:

R Developer

Hello, my name is XXX. I’m experienced in developing Shiny apps for development project. In my past projects, I’ve accumulated a lot of experience ingesting data from csv, dta, json, databases then visualize them with ggplot2, ggvis, leaflet, plotly, etc. packages with R and present them in Shiny apps.

I graduated from Josef Korbel School in International Studies and have been working in int’l development since 2012 so that I’m also very familiar working with international development organizations, handling sensitive information.

I have good working knowledge of R, Shiny and Shiny server, Rmarkdown, R package development, linux / unix operating systems, bash commands, git, html and css, twitter bootstrap, AWS. Here are some examples of my work that was allowed to share:

I’m passionate about creating tools to democratize data for international development. I lived in the poorest urban slum in New Delhi, India trying to help local health workers map out all of the health clinics with adequate maternal health services. I created a tool visualizing agricultural fertilizer trials data, weather data, and soil data. The project manager told me that this tool has convinced him the value of high quality data. He also told me he will use the climate change evidence and the soil conditions to try pushing the adaptation of non-drought tolerant maize varieties in areas that traditionally experience drought during their planting seasons.

I look forward to working with you in the near future.
