Dear recruiter, I am a NUS Business student entrepreneur from NUS, applying for the position of summer intern in your company.

Prior to this internship application, I co-founded a two year old startup, successfully raised $50,000 in governmental funding for it and attracted investment offers worth 155,000 My team and I produced a prototype, strategized investment pitches, administered incorporation, and personally pitched in front of an investor audience in less than three months. Having no prior experience to entrepreneurship, I needed to quickly learn the ropes and fight proverbial fires; and in hindsight, I am thankful for all the tough lessons learnt along the way. In my startup I focused on financial management and corporate communications. Managing my company’s cash flow has taught me how to prudent in expenditure yet creative in fundraising. I have also learnt how to manage my relations with venture capitalists. Ultimately, the experience of straddling the dual role of a student and an entrepreneur has built up my resilience and adaptability.

Through my startup experience, I believe I can work well in your firm due to my past exposure in the fundraising and the startup landscape. I have past experience in startup pitches, having personally pitched in front of a live investor audience. Further, I am familiar with legal and regulatory aspects of startups and your primary collaborator, SPRING Singapore, having filed a provisional patent, incorporated a company, and received a SPRING grant. Having been through multiple startup stages, I would be sympathetic to the needs of the entrepreneur and the investor alike.

With my startup background, I may be a good fit for an internship position at Zicom Medtacc. I have taken a year’s worth of fundamental accounting, business law, and finance courses at NUS, and I am keen to assume this internship due to my desire to explore a career in venture capitalism and gain experience in managing and analyzing the startup landscape.
