Sample cover letter for Full Time position at google

POSITION:

application developer

One of my major passions in life is technology. Already as a kid, I spent countless hours building up all sorts of electronic devices and I took my first programming courses (Logo and Basic) at the age of ten. Later, I developed my passion more deeply through undergraduate, master's, and doctoral studies in computer science. During this period I also applied my knowledge and enthusiasm to real-world applications by working in industry as a software engineer, and even founding my own IT company.

Nowadays, I am a computer scientist in a prestigious university. I love my job, and the contributions I have made in my area of research have earned me a respectable scientist's profile. But indeed ``great just isn't good enough''; there is still something very important missing to me when working in academia: the feeling that my work has a direct impact on people's lives.

WHY GOOGLE?
I believe that as a Google Software Engineer I would have the opportunity to participate in cutting-edge projects that aim at improving people's lives. In addition, working in a company as far-reaching and diverse as Google would allow me to continue doing what I most like in my job in academia, namely facing new challenges on a regular basis and working out innovative solutions.

Finally, I am just a big fan of Google. I like its products (specially Google Search , Google Maps, and Google Books), I like its history (its being born almost by chance), and I share its core principles (in particular ``You can make money without doing evil'' and ``Great just isn't good enough'').

WHY ME?
I have the following qualifications and skills relevant for a Software Engineer position:

  • BS, MS, and PhD in Computer Science.
  • Solid foundation in computer science, with strong competencies in algorithms, data structures, and programming languages.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
  • Experience working in industry.
  • Experience programming in C and Java.

Altogether, I am convinced that my strong background in computer science, together with my creativity, enthusiasm, and commitment would be of great value to Google.
