RE: Internships 2016 Middle East Opportunities UAE & Oman

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am pleased to submit my application for a summer internship position with the Environment sector at AECOM. I have enclosed my Curriculum Vitae presenting a brief illustration of my career thus far.

I have always wanted to pursue a career in consulting. Through my degree and extracurricular activities, I have developed a critical mind-set with the ability to look at problems in a structured manner and propose solutions. I have applied this acumen in a number of settings varying from implementing Deloitte’s proprietary technologies into clients’ businesses, through to developing an understanding the implications of ‘Pension Liberation’ whilst interning at Addleshaw Goddard. Working on these projects has given me an insight into real world scenarios where complex challenges can be solved by teamwork. I have learnt to appreciate the key role collaboration can play; by cooperating many minds, talents and viewpoints, an optimal solution is possible.

I am highly attracted to Mott MacDonald due to the firm’s expertise within the water sector. Whilst volunteering at Human Aid, I contributed to a proposal designed to tackle the lack of water supply in Palestine. During my second year of university I studied a module which looked closely at water and development, this module developed my understanding of the practices required for sustainable development and the formulation of government policy from the perspective of water management. This helped me appreciate the extensive role of water in the present. From improving the water supply quality for the Shanghai urban environment project in China to designing infrastructure for water supply to serve the developing city of Kigali in Rwanda, it is this variety of projects that make the proposition of working for Mott MacDonald challenging, yet very exciting. I admire the emphasis the firm places on supporting growth and learning with both formal training and hands-on challenges, allowing career progression to be based on merit, not time served. As an employee-owned business, the freedom to think independently and challenge assumptions are aspects that make Mott MacDonald a firm where I can build my long-term career.

Leadership has always been an important part of my life. Whilst having undertaken a placement at Barclays, I led a team of four researchers to recommend potential improvements to Barclays products and services within the African region. These recommendations were then reviewed by the board of directors which resulted in them being put forward at the next Barclays Africa annual general meeting. As brand ambassador for a student founded startup ‘RateMyModules’, I created and led the ‘Students of London’ launch campaign developing branding and marketing on campus that attracted an audience of over 600 students, including over 400 sign ups during our on-campus launch and over 200 likes on social media.

I believe I have the right mix of experience, entrepreneurialism and personal qualities to be a part of your firm and excel within it. I hope to have the opportunity to take part in your internship programme. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours faithfully,

Imran Bhuta
