POSITION:

OneSubsea is a very prestigious organization that specializes in the Energy sector and is also known for providing integrated solutions, products, services and systems for the subsea oil and gas operators around the globe. One such thing which sets OneSubsea apart from its competitors is its dedication and concern in developing new technologies through innovations. Innovation is something, which has always motivated me to follow engineering. An example of this is the cost-effective Diamould Electric Connectors, which are designed and manufactured to be used essentially in the hostile environment both downhole and subsea. This demonstrates the expertise and the innovation of the team of design engineers at OneSubsea for which I aspire to be part of. To include further, one facet which catches my eyes is the company’s core values which is similar to the values which I implemented as a Team Manager to my Unmanned Aerial Vehicle group project, which I did during my final year of my course at the Coventry University, UK. These are just some of the factors, which has driven me to apply to this renowned organisation.

I believe this role would be a perfect platform for me to not only build my skills but to further improve myself through the engineering assignments I work on. At university, I have undertaken several projects, which were followed by detailed technical report submissions. One of which was design, modelling and testing of an oleo pneumatic shock absorber, which I did during my 2nd year of my course. This project involved me doing numerous design hand calculations followed by using Microsoft Excel to further design in details with accordance to customer and airworthiness requirements (this included piston area, length of the stroke and pressures at extended and compressed positions), which then I implemented it to CATIA V5 for 3D modelling. To include further, in this project I also applied the best suited materials for the casing and other units of the shock absorber for which I used the knowledge of material engineering especially metallurgy and CES Materials Software. During the testing phase of this project I used Matlab and Simulink for simulating the performance of the shock absorber and Finite Element Analysis for structural analysis in CATIA V5. Lastly, it was followed by an oral presentation to my tutor, where I effectively demonstrated my oral communication skills and hence I achieved a first class in this project.

I am well matched to this role primarily due to my strong analytical skills where I achieved Certificate of Achievement for the best result in Mathematics in the entire school. Moreover, as you can see from my CV, I have worked with a team of engineers and technicians as an Intern Aircraft Technician overseeing the maintenance of Airbus A320 and CFM56-5B engines for Air Arabia airline. Hence, I developed skills such as technical, time management and team working as I worked (following instruction as per Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM)) to deadlines contributing towards the team objective in deciding upon the airworthiness of the aircraft. Recently, I have done a short course on AutoCad 2015 where I have learnt about 2D and 3D modeling. This course in particular has taught me a lot about the mechanical design and has provided me AutoDesk AutoCad 2015 certification. In addition to this, I am currently self-teaching myself PTC Creo which shows I am competent enough to undertake projects at industry level.

Also, this role would enable me to understand how different departments of the company coordinate with each other in order to provide customers with intelligent solutions to challenging problems. Additionally, this role will also give me further understanding to industrial level of design tool such as CAD, which would enhance my technical abilities and provide me a route to my desired field of specialisation i.e. Mechanical Design.
