Dear Hiring Manager,

I am writing to express my keen interest in a summer internship for the position of a Data Analyst at APT Consulting Inc. I am an international graduate student currently enrolled in the Masters of Information Management (MIM) program at University of Maryland, College Park and will be graduating in May 2017.

I am currently working as a Research Analyst under Professor James Jim Gimpel in the Department of Sociology in engagement with Howard County, Maryland. My work involves reading and analysing data using various data analysis tools such as Tableau, R and SPSS.

• In the projects so far, I have segregated and categorised data relating crime records and fire accidents of Howard County into significant divisions. From the resulting files the data was taken to generate heat maps for visualization of areas populated with such incidents.
• Another project involved collecting and reading data from the surveys taken place by Gallup in the last 4 decades, extracting relevant information from it in order to identify patterns that will help us come to conclusions.
• In my current project I have to geocode addresses from Rental licenses and Delinquent taxes files of Howard County and perform GIS mapping and spatial analysis on it.

In addition to my analytical strengths, I bring to the table advanced computer skills; expertise in the MS Office Suite of products; and familiarity with programming languages including SQL, HTML5 and Visual Basic.

I attained my Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology in June 2015. During my under-graduation, I took keen interest in learning subjects related to data and information management like Database Management System, Data Mining, Data Warehousing, Business Intelligence and Database Technology. I had developed a desktop application for a university level competition in the third year titled “CET Coaching Class” using Visual Basic as the front-end and MySQL database as the back-end. The objective was to test the user by posing a series of questions (one question at a time) to prepare him for a competitive examination called CET. The results were used to evaluate and plot a performance graph for the user. I bagged the second prize for this project. This further motivated me to pursue my higher studies in the field of Information Management. I plan on specialising in Data Analytics that would make a suitable candidate for this position.
