Subject: Application for Winter Internship

Dear Sir/Ma’am,

I am writing to apply for a Winter Internship at the World Bank. I have had an abiding interest in Energy and Environment. I have been greatly exposed to conventional sources of energy and its effects while working with Reliance Industries Limited (RIL). I have been trained in environmental hazard and risk mitigation processes which has helped me in performing Environment Impact Assessment of chemical processing in RIL’s Fiber Intermediate Plant. These experiences have pushed me to think about energy and its impact on environment.

I am currently studying MA Development with specialization in Public Policy at Azim Premji University. During this Master’s programme, I have written one paper titled the “The Social and Ecological Consequences of Climate Change” based on environment hazard and have written a book review of Vandana Shiva’s “The Violence of Green Revolution”.My prior degrees include a B.E. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and a post-graduate diploma in Flow Control Engineering. My rigorous academic work has been significantly linked to energy and environment study.

I’m also aware of the energy scenario at the global scale and keep track of Annual Reports published by United Nation such as Renewables Global Feature Report and MENA (Middle East and North Africa) Report. During my recent internship with Oxfam India in the Maoist affected districts of Jharkhand, I got exposed to various energy related issues such as poor power infrastructure that pushed me to think about Energy policy more intensively.

Going forward, I am looking to broaden my range of experiences in Energy sector, and strengthen my research, communication and organizing skills. Interning with the World Bank will greatly help me in attaining my professional goals. On the other hand, I am confident that my long-standing interest, exposure and training in development issues will allow me to contribute meaningfully to the organization.

Thank you for taking the time to consider my application.

Sincerely

Alok Singh
