Next Challenge: What is your idea for a sustainable and cost-effective alternative to mineral oil? |
This challenge is for US solvers only.
As members of the digital age, we have come to rely on technology and apps for all aspects of our lives. Need a ride? Call an Uber! Hungry but don’t want to leave your house? Order from Postmates! That's why we want to develop an app for social good.
We’re currently developing an app to connect those in need with volunteers willing to help. That’s where you come in! We need your help to identify volunteer opportunities that have direct healthcare or medical improvements. So, beyond the activity itself, we are looking for a rationale as to why this volunteer effort will result in improved health and medical outcomes for people on the receiving end (those in need).
The app will be centered around SDOH (social determinants of health) related challenges in the US that can be improved with volunteer effort. Please consider this for your submission.
Tell us about the types of services you believe should be included in this app. We want ideas and rationale for volunteer activities that could be available on the app with the end goal of improving the medical conditions or health of the individuals receiving help through the app.. Specifically, answer the following:
- What services/activities should be included in this app?
- How will your services be accessible in both rural and urban settings? - Consider location and feasibility in your response
- Does this activity require a certain set of skills or would it apply to anyone willing to volunteer their time?
- How will these services/activities benefit the end-user? Think beyond a simple ride to a doctor's appointment or grocery delivery and consider the aftereffects.
- Will this service improve the quality of life for the individual in need?
- What medical condition or health concern would your service help to improve?
- Will this allow for the individual to recover faster? Increase mobility? Connect with a larger community of folks in a similar circumstance?
- What evidence is there to support your idea? - You must include studies/evidence that this volunteering activity has benefited individuals in need in such a way that health improves as an outcome.
- For example, if your idea is to deliver fresh food to individuals living in food deserts, you need to use scientific evidence to explain why those individuals will see improved health and potentially need less medical intervention by consuming more fresh food vs processed food.
