In the travel and hospitality business, we see millions of families traveling each year. We understand that there are aspects of travel today that are especially challenging for extended families traveling together on vacation or for a special event.

For example, a group of adult children may go on vacation with their parents, and face unique challenges along the journey or at their destination. A family of grandparents, parents, and young children might face both similar and different sets of challenges.

Deliverables

We want to hear about a trip you've taken with your extended family (adult siblings, aunts and uncles, grandparents, etc.). What was challenging or frustrating about that experience? What would have made it a more enjoyable trip for you and your loved ones?

  1. Tell us about a recent extended family trip.  Specifically, answer parts a-d below:
    1. Who was in your extended family group?
    2. What was the focus of your trip? For example, was it a special occasion or an annual family gathering?
    3. Did you or your extended family face any challenges or frustrations during the trip? This could be during planning or on the actual trip.
    4. How did your trip compare with your expectations going in?  Was there anything you wish would have gone differently? Why or why not?
  2. What is your idea for a new product, service, or travel offering that could be offered to travelers to help them take a trip with their extended family? Top ideas will include a detailed description of the product or service and be closely tied to the challenges or frustrations of extended family travel.

Considerations:

  • Avoid: We are not interested in ideas for luggage, packing, airport security / flight delays / flight cost.
  • You are expected to answer both deliverables 1 and 2 to receive a high score in the Meets Deliverables category
  • We are excited to hear the details of your answers, but please keep in mind that top submissions will be written clearly and concisely.

Submissions will be graded on the following criteria:
