In the ever-evolving landscape of skincare, packaging innovation plays a pivotal role in capturing consumer attention, enhancing brand value, and contributing to sustainable practices. The packaging not only protects the product, but also helps convey the brand's ethos to potential customers. 

Presently, most skincare products are manufactured and processed in a factory. Then, the product is either stored in warehouses or sent to retail distribution centers awaiting sale. However, we are developing a direct-to-consumer product channel and creating a new primary packaging design where constraints such as shelf space and product displays are no longer a concern (ex. a vertical lotion bottle could now be horizontally shaped). We are also no longer confined to certain label shapes, or even labels at all. 

At a time where e-commerce and quick-commerce channels are gaining momentum, the need for unique and disruptive primary packaging designs has never been more critical. These designs need to be sustainable, distinct from the competition, and capable of aligning with the changing supply chain dynamics. Keep in mind there should be a thoughtful focus on reducing waste with respect to materials used, changed geometry of the packaging, space taken up in transport packaging needed, etc.

Your design should be compatible across our entire product range which includes shower gels, body lotions, soft creams (tins and jars), and face wash (tube and bottle). Feel free to think outside the box and get creative - maybe even draw inspiration from other industries (ex. toys)!

We’re specifically looking for creative ideas on bottle innovation/change that will ultimately also reduce secondary (shipping) packaging.

  1. Attach an artistic rendering of your idea (sketch, drawing, mockup, etc.).

  2. What has your experience been like with e-commerce packaging (think Amazon or ordering from your favorite online store)? What do you like and dislike?

  3. What is your disruptive primary packaging design for a direct-to-consumer (e-commerce) skincare line?

      1. Describe the shape/design and how consumers will interact with it.
      2. Why is your idea innovative and different from what’s on the market today?
      3. What changes in your design help reduce waste when it comes to materials used, packaging shape and space needed for secondary packaging during transport?
      4. Please keep in mind your idea should be feasible and scalable for a large skincare company!
